Best pay per view I have seen in at least 10 years, top to bottom. Ibushi and Nakamura was the match of the night and tore the roff of the place. Okada and Tanahashi tore what was left of the roof off the arena, simply fantastic stuff. I loved having english commentary, I know some people were complaining but I honestly had nothing bad to say about it. It may have benefited from another person in the booth (Tenay, but he's been bad recently) but overall it was great.
I still need to watch Tanahashi/Okada but the show has been pretty good so far. This is the first NJPW show I watch in full so it was neat seeing how they present pro wrestling. Suzuki/Sakaraba has been my match of the night so far, was just a great match. I'm glad people enjoy the show as it's a legitimate alternative to what WWE puts out but I am not nearly as sold on NJPW or this show as a whole as most people are. I haven't really seen anything that blows me away or anything I would honestly rewatch. On the commentary front I'll be honest, I'm glad JR isn't calling the english NJPW show. He just seems so out of his element during some matches (the opening jr tag match the most clear example).

He had a slow start, but by the final three matches on the show, he's pretty great. Definitely a tad rusty, but if it were a regular gig, I think he would be fantastic at it.
My thoughts exactly. Ibushi and Nakamura stole the show, with Okada and Tanahashi close behind. The tag match was a lot of fun. Bucks were up for a double doomsday device, got hit with it, flipped over, landed on their feet, and proceeded to super kick everyone.
Damn, that sounds like it was pretty awesome. If someone comes across the match on youtube or something, please post it.
Fucking. Awesome. No words to describe the quality of that company right now.
I have to admit, I was kinda disappointed in the Taguchi/Omega match, but that's only because they had set the bar so high already... Okada, Nakamura, Shibata and Suzuki are all just amazing.
Lack of Toru Yano was expected, but disappointing nonetheless.
Okay the last match made me a fan. Just some awesome stuff by Tanahashi and Okada. I think I'll follow the promotion now as it's got some pretty unique stuff not seen anywhere else. I'm excited for the AXS show with Mauro and Barnett. I'll stick by statement on JR though, did not like him on WK.
Dave had already given another Okada/Tanahashi match 5 stars, so I was pretty sure he wouldn't give them it again (he also gave it 4 3/4), which I agree with both ratings.
If it looks good... You'll see it If it sounds good... You'll hear it If it's marketed right... You'll buy it But...
Great match for the first AXS show. I enjoyed this Tanahashi/Okada match more than the one they had at Wrestle Kingdom 9.
I do have a few gripes though.
Mauro Renallo has become a caricature of himself, though to be fair, he's been like this since he started calling fights for Strikeforce. His base level speaking volume being loud as shit & mispronouncing every other name (Ultimo Drah-gone, Randy SaLvage, & I'm not sure if he was getting Okada's first name wrong or if Striker/JR were, hopefully someone can clear this up for me... is it Kah-zooch-ka or Kaz-oo-she-ka?)
The superfluous Tanahashi interviews that book-ended the episode. Opens talking about how his arms & legs are too short, then closes talking about not writing properly as a kid. WTF?!
And this is more against AXS TV & has been a problem since it was HDNet, but cutting to commercial & not showing actual commercials, just ads for other shows on the channel. Why not put that shit between shows & leave the shows commercial-free?!
I've been under the impression that it's pronounced Ka-ZOOch-ka. I believe it's correct the way Renalo is pronouncing it. Could be incorrect though.
I thought it was pronounced that way too.
As for the AXS show, I thought it was good. Renallo & Barnett did a pretty good job commentating on a match that is now 2 years old. The "ads" that weren't ads was odd (but that has been HDNEt's thang since forever) but that's the only negative thing I can say about the show.
I can't wait for next Friday's show(s). Meltzer built that third show up so much that I need to see it. Like now.
