We don't get into NJPW booking too much here, but somebody has to explain to me why Hirooki Goto is in the finals of G1 while Tomohiro Ishii is still being booked like just another midcard guy. Can it even be explained?
Nothing against Goto. Nice little worker, that guy. I just have no interest in seeing him in the finals of G1 against any of his potential opponents. Whereas Ishii would almost certainly tear the house down with any of those guys.

I'm expecting Naito to beat him in the finals though.

This is completely far from logical sense that I don't have any particular good reason why he is there other than those that should be in are either injured, have a program currently ongoing or......???.

These last couple of days have really been something special. They created stars, at a time when they were at their lowest superstar wise in almost a decade.

I think Okada and Omega is destined to be the 2017 MOTY. Sure, it's way early to call, but I've never seen Omega this motivated to perform.

I'm also super hyped for the ROH title match, crazy that the ROH title could change hands on a New Japan show. Don't think Cole is winning but, the fact that the match is taking place on this show is awesome.

I just had to share this from the Observer newsletter...which just came out moments ago.
Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada may have put on the greatest match in pro wrestling history in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 11 on 1/4 at the Tokyo Dome.
A number of people after the match stated that it was the greatest match they’d ever seen. Personally, I’d say the same thing. As people were leaving the Tokyo Dome the murmur in the crowd was that it was the greatest pro wrestling match ever, and at restaurants in the area after the show, and on the subway, that was the main topic of conversation. The talk backstage was also that it was the greatest match anyone had ever seen.
Dave then proceeded to give the match a ****** rating. That's right...SIX STARS!!! ON A FIVE STAR SYSTEM! The first match in the history of professional wrestling (which Dave has been covering since the 60's) to receive a six star rating!

Well, there was a Steamboat/Flair match from a house show in '89 that he supposedly said was a six star match, too. And he still maintains that that match was better than any of their tv/ppv matches from that year. But this would be the first one that was actually taped for posterity.
It's also worth mentioning the Kushida/Takahashi, Goto/Shibata, and Tanahashi/Naito were all given ****1/2 (normally a surefire match of the night rating). And nothing on the main show, except Cody/Juice, was given less than ***. Safe to say we will not see a better show all year.

I believe I've posted this before, but since it seems there's more board members subbing to NJPW World: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZsZCBTpKjHzdbCpKZ1No1KAdpmOd2OcgSMfC1-oa7pI/edit#gid=0Senior Lariato has compiled a comprehensive list dating back to 1973 (to present) of recommended matches from New Japan's history, with direct NJPW World links to said matches. It's a really incredible resource for anyone just getting into the Japanese product!
