I’m excited for them, although I still have my reservations. I would still love to see a partnership with New Japan, and I feel NJPW has way more to gain teaming with AEW now than it does ROH. The ROH partnership always felt a little one-sided to me. Aside from The Elite guys, what did ROH really contribute to New Japan. But all of the big ROH shows feature the big NJPW stars.
The press conference eased some of my concerns. They seem to be establishing a solid, and more importantly, unique roster. If the rumored TBS/TNT tv deal is legit, we are all in for another wrestling war, which will benefit absolutely everyone.

I've said this in a couple places, but this is not only good for fans, not only good for wrestlers, but also has the potential to be extremely good for ROH. The Monday Night Wars was a time when both the big companies put up their A game in a battle for survival, and produced some of the best pro wrestling TV to ever air. As it's looking, both ROH and AEW have backing from big money companies, and if all goes as it most likely will, both will have TV deals. From the get go, AEW is pretty much the same size as ROH in every conceivable way, but the difference is that AEW has a huge advantage with some real big name stars.
Really though, I think if ROH plays its cards right, they'll be just as good as AEW. They recently signed huge stars from the indies like King, Bandido, PCO, Haskins, and more, and resigned some of their biggest stars. It also looks like they're about to start investing heavily in their next generation of guys, so they could play the long game a lot better. If everything goes perfect, we could be looking at another golden age for ROH. The talent is there, the sharing deals are there(assuming that even if NJPW cuts off ROH they'll sign a deal with another company like AJPW), and all they need is a push in the right direction and enough trust from Sinclair.
No matter what though, it's an exciting time to be a fan of all these guys.

I've been out of the loop for quite a while so maybe someone can fill me in. From what I gathered watching that cringe inducing rally, is that Cody & the Bucks are running the promotion & they're gonna change the wrestling world. That & you guys talking about a potential tv deal makes it seem like they expect to be competing with WWE. Is that the case? Or are they looking to usurp TNA & ROH as like the distant #2 or 3 wrestling promotion in the US?

They announced a partnership with CIMA’s crew in China, which is the big pie-in-the-sky foothold that WWE has wanted for so long. And they reportedly have a number of TV deals on the table, with the strong rumor being TNT/TBS. I don’t think anyone is preparing for a war, or that AEW is instantly going to challenge for the throne against the “E”. But what it does signify, for me (and people like me I believe), is that a lot of people are fed up with being told what to like, and suffering through a watered-down, and frankly unwatchable product. Just like any endeavor in life, you can accept the status quo, or take a risk and try to change things. So yeah, these guys have my full support. I support what they have done, and what they are trying to do - from a practical standpoint, and philosophical. They are backed by a billionaire, who has more money than the McMahon’s. And honestly, the last year has taught me to not count them out. No one is saying it will be easy, or even imminent to challenge WWE, but if anyone can do it, these guys can. And at the very least, things are going to change.

Are these guys still gonna be working New Japan & the indy's? I'm so outta the loop, I thought Kenny was WWE bound. That's good to know. Don't get me wrong. I'd love for them to shake up the industry, get wrestlers paid more, put out great wrestling for a wider audience, give Vince a run for his money, etc. Just pessimistic about the whole thing. Since 2001, we've seen so many of these little "we're gonna change the world, we're gonna do things differently, it's all about the wrestlers & the fans, move over Vince" upstarts & they all turn out to be a flash in the pan.

I think his name is Tony Khan - either him, or his family own the Jacksonville Jaguars. I have no idea what the contracts entail - as of right now, there’s no relationship with New Japan, so The Elite guys seem to be exclusive to this. I tend to think that will change, because NJPW losing Omega is a huge blow to their international expansion. Meltzer was speculating that Jericho would still be allowed to work New Japan if he wanted though, but he is definitely signed to AEW. A video of the contract being signed was put up on Twitter. They mentioned that the wrestlers would have health care, and there would be no gender gap in pay. So even with those two details, they are already forcing the hand of the antiquated old-time “independent contractor” nonsense. At the very least, I see Vince having to pony up for healthcare now, especially in lieu of the ridiculous Fox contract. And I get that. I’m the same way. I’ve been discontent with WWE longer than most of the people on this board have been alive. But this seems like the most legit chance as a viable alternative as we’ve seen in all these years. It’s still super early, but I would have never guessed they could have pulled off “All In” - and they did in spectacular fashion. The idealist part of me wants to “rah rah” these guys and begin getting pumped for this. Even the realist side thinks that objectively, they have a decent shot. Are they underdogs? Absolutely! But that’s what they should be, and need to be for this thing to take off. At the very least, it is going to be an interesting year.

I was wondering why they were in Jacksonville doing a pep rally for a show in Vegas Barring a highly unlikely mass exodus, I don't see this having any effect on how Vince runs his shit. Dude is ancient & got where he's at by treating wrestlers like circus monkeys. Nothing's gonna change that.

I honestly haven't enjoyed pro wrestling since 2011, but i'm so fucking happy I can enjoy a real wrestling program again. Big thanks to AEW for making me excited again. 10/10 show.

That ending was crazy!!! Overall, DoN was a really fun and an amazing show! IMO it surpassed All In, and OI thought All In was one of the best shows I've ever seen. All matches were great, except the battle royal. I didn't enjoy it as much as the one from All In. Loved both 6 man tag matches. Especially the women's tag match. That was so goddam fun! Cody vs Goldust was emotional, and I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. The Lucha Bros vs The Bucks was the best match of the show for me. I was going nuts from all the crazy shit they were doing. The main event was pretty good as well. I don't think it beats their first match but it was still enjoyable! Extraordinary show! Really hoping they succeed.
My ratings: Battle Royal - 2/5 Kip Sabían vs Guevara - 3/5 SCU vs Strong Hearts - 4/5 Baker vs Rose vs Rae vs A.K - 3.5/5 Best Friends vs Angelico and Evans - 4/5 Women's tag match 4.25/5 Cody vs Dustin - 4.5/5 Lucha Bros vs Bucks 5/5 Kenny vs Jericho - 4.25/5
BTW, that AEW belt looks sexy.

Look how beautiful the Belt is, my lord! Not as beautiful as the MVZ World Title tho.

A second MOTYC happened today. The 6 man tag match left me speechless, and I wouldn't mind seeing Lucha Bros vs The Young Bucks at least 1000 more times. The women's/Joshi match was so fun just like at DoN, and it's probably my favorite thing going on in AEW so far. I'm now a big fan of Yuka, and I was heartbroken when I saw the sad expression on Yukas face at the end of the match.
Another amazing show!
