I'm not suggesting that there is something inherent to comic book culture that provokes this behavior. Well, if you won't, I will. I have nothing against comic books as an art form. I'm a big Neil Gaiman fan, and I think his Sandman comics are rather brilliant, just to use one example. But there does seem to be something about the insular culture of comic readers that creates some kind of inferiority complex that causes fans to be overprotective of their favorite fictional characters. Maybe being picked on in school is the source of all this misplaced rage, though I doubt that kids are still made fun of for liking superheroes considering the widespread popularity of the movies. I don't know, clearly I'm not a psychologist, so I probably don't know what I'm talking about, but that's my observation. Side note: I know there are a lot of comic readers on this forum, so I need to point out that I'm not talking about you folks. You're all smart, reasonable, well behaved gentlemen.

WOW!!! Rises is freakin' EPIC!!! I can't wait to see it again. Hathaway & Hardy were both fantastic. Bane was incredibly menacing & brutal. Do not unspoil what is next if you haven't seen the movie yet... Bane "breaking the bat..." OH MY GOD! Major Nerdgasm! The return of Scarecrow was a treat, just wish he had worn the mask. JGL & Cotillard turning out to be "Robin" & Talia Al Ghul weren't surprising, but very welcome nonetheless. And the ending... I almost cried. My only gripe with the movie were a couple (not all) of the flashbacks from the other movies, but I understand they were more for the casual viewer who hadn't seen or might not have remembered certain scenes from BB or TDK. Some people may not like the gigantic jump in sheer size & spectacle from TDK to TDKR, but I felt it fit perfectly with the ongoing theme of "escalation" in the series.

Oh boy is right. The news reports I've been watching have brought up the point that maybe he was an obsessed fan living in a fantasy world, which I don't think is true. I don't feel like that is the case here, and it was more of a "I can kill more people here than anywhere else" mentality than anything else.
Sad news all around though.

I'm not surprised they went directly to Batman as a reason. Really? Seriously man, when you make a comment like that it makes you look like you're claiming Batman (as an entity), or the people who made the movie are the real victims of this tragedy. Not accusing you of doing that, just warning you that it could be taken the wrong way. You can't blame the movie (or franchise), but you can't ignore the connection, either. We've seen it happen with A Clockwork Orange, and Taxi Driver before, and sadly it will happen again in the future. Movies don't make people crazy, but crazy people often take movies the wrong way. Now, on the other hand the good folks at Fox News reporting that the alleged shooter had "his hair dyed red like The Joker." Is the type of irresponsible, sensationalistic reporting people should get upset about. I'm sure I don't need to point out the glaring error in that report.

That had nothing to do with the movie. This nut knew that there was going to be alot of people at the movies. Im sure in his crazed head he really thought everyone in the world was going to be at that movie theatre and thats probably why he did what he did. He was just crazy and thats all there is to it. It really has nothing to do with batman. I do feel like shit though for the victims of it. Many of those people that survived that are going to be petrified to see this movie or any movie now. That sucks. This movie was awesome. Right on par with The Dark Knight.
