NFL News & Notes:-- Cleveland Browns Defensive Coordinator Dick Jauron takes the blame for the Browns loss to the Bengals this past Sunday. He says “When the offense is ready to snap the ball, we’ve got to be ready to play defense. That’s my responsibility and I didn’t get it done on that play.” The Browns had a 17-13 lead with 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter when rookie WR A.J. Green caught the go-ahead 41 yd touchdown. Yep, that kinda sucks. It didn't help matters when Jauron was looking at his playbook and the Bengals ran a hurry up and threw that TD. That sucks even more. -- The New York Football Giants are still talking about Steve Smith even though he left the team this past off-season & they just signed veteran WR Brandon Stokely. Giants, believe me, he wasn't the biggest weapon in your offense. In fact you should be worried about figuring out how to retool your defense when you lost 7 players, some of which were starting, all due to ACL related injuries. FOCUS ON THAT! -- The Miami Dolphins, along with some of their sponsors, bought up the unsold tickets to this Sunday's game against the Texans. They will be giving the extra tickets to season ticket holders...why didn't they just give them away to people who can't afford them? Boggles my mind. Injury Report:-- Texans RB Arian Foster practiced again with the team this week after sitting last week due to a bad hamstring. He is most likely to make his season debut this Sunday, splitting the carries with Ben Tate who made a huge splash last week stepping in for Foster.

That guy cost me a win in one of my FFL leagues.

That was one of the greatest games I have ever seen. Let alone it being an elimination game. Last time I felt like this watching MLB was when the Sox comeback in 04.

Thoughts after tonight's games:
1.) Arkansas could beat LSU, be #1 in the country and not go to the SEC Title game because of the head to head tiebreaker.
2.) Robert Griffin III is the best College Football player in the Country. Yes, even better than Luck.
3.) The top 5 teams in the BCS tomorrow will have at least 3 SEC teams (LSU, Bama, Arkansas)

Let me see if I can sum up 2 months of sports news:
- NBA season kicked off on Christmas, took a little while to get going, but now with the All Star Game in a couple of weeks, teams seem to be back into the swing of things.
- LINSANITY is sweeping NY. Interesting stat: Jeremy Lin has had the most points (89) in his first 3 career starts than any other player since the shot clock era (75-76). Think about that for a minute, and how many players that encompasses.
- The Super Bowl was last Sunday, and until the last 7 or 8 minutes of the 4th Quarter the game was pretty bare. Not that it was boring, but I figured both teams would hit the 25 point mark more easily. I guess we can rest the discussion of whether or not Eli Manning is an elite QB or not.
- The Indianapolis Colts are in an interesting position of what to do with QB Peyton Manning. If they make no decision with Manning by March 8th, the team will have to pay him $28M guaranteed, and a base salary of $7M for the upcoming season, which obviously won't happen. What do the Colts do? Well, first and most obvious, they will draft Stanford QB Andrew Luck with the first pick in this year's draft. They have already started the rebuilding process when they fired the GM Bill Polian & Head Coach Jim Caldwell along with the whole coaching staff I believe. I never thought we would ever be in this position, when we are asking ourselves where we are all asking ourselves what team we think Peyton will be playing with next season, I was 100% sure he was going to end his career with them and be one of the last players to start and end his career with the same team. It's a shame really.
Other notes:
NFL
- The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly in preliminary discussions to trade CB Asante Samuel. If you remember, last season he was requesting a trade since he didn't think he was getting enough playing time with the signings of N'namdi Asomugha & Dominique Rodgers Cromartie. While that did prove to be the case for the first 6 games, they changed up defensive schemes that utilized all three players to varying success, since it got them out of their losing slump and ended the season at .500 with an 8-8 record.
My take: Samuel is coming with a hefty price tag, and being the 3rd string DB isn't worth it. He will be making $8.4M this year, and at the age of 31, that is usually the downturn age for a DB. The Eagles were close to dealing him for a pair of draft picks last season, and if they get offered the same deal again should they choose to go through with this trade, I'd say pull the trigger.
- Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski underwent arthroscopic ankle surgery to fix the injury that really limited him during Super Bowl XLVI. With a 10 week timetable to heal, the team is very optimistic he will be back before OTAs.
My take: Obviously, he is one of Tom Brady's biggest weapons on offense, so having him back before OTAs is a huge plus to make another run at a Super Bowl.
- The Pittsburgh Steelers have declined to bring back WR Hines Ward. As the Steelers are working to restructure contracts, and try and get below the salary cap, Ward would be making $4M for one year. Added to the fact that he has lost his starting position to the younger Mike Wallace and you can clearly see why they would make such a move. The Steelers might not be done, they are also eyeing to restructure both Safety Troy Palomalu ($6.25m next season) and QB Ben Roethlisberger ($11.6M) contracts as well.
My take: Hines Ward still has some left in the gas tank, but not as a starter. If he is willing to lower his base salary and accept a role-player position, then almost every team could make a run at him.

Peyton Manning has told his agent to finalize contract with the Denver Broncos. Tim Tebow will most likely be traded when Manning signs with the team.

I think people forgot about this thread...
Oh, and in other news, Malcolm Butler is my new favorite person on the planet.
Best Super Bowl ever?
