Punk vs Jericho... that match was the fuckin' bomb.
Everything else (besides Rock winning), was shit. One the worst WrestleManias ever.
Discuss!

Can't quite agree on that homie... Matches were not GREAT, but they were very well put together (bar the divas match). Anyone else believe Sheamus' bitchin' thru the weekend cost him a REAL match?

Taker v. HHH was amazing. I don't see how anyone can deny that.

Jericho/Punk stole the show as expected, wish it went just 5 minutes more with a GTS finish rather than tap. Taker/HHH was also quite well done in the end despite its sluggish approach. Rock/Cena was only worth it for the finish. I did expect a bit better from this Mania but I'm not disappointed.

Taker v. HHH was amazing. I don't see how anyone can deny that. You mean chairshot to the back x5, finishers, kick out, HBK makes a funny face & can't decide who to screw over, repeat... in a Cell? That match was a major letdown. Shawn & the Cell added absolutely nothing to match. And two great (old) wrestlers hitting each other in the back with a chair for 45 minutes isn't exactly exhilarating.

It wasn't GREAT, I wouldn't give it 5 stars, but it was just as you said, two great OLD wrestlers (please note the emphasis) trying to tell a story, more than "going to war". They're both fucking old bro. It was good for what it was. I enjoyed it and I had fun... Except for the Sheamus match, that, my dude, was a FUCKING LETDOWN OF LIFE.

When I heard the Brodus Clay entrance, I was a bit disappointed since I thought it was a squash match (And immediately thought "THIS LATE?"). But I really liked that segment overall. I laughed a bit when Mama Clay randomly came out, but then when an army of them (AKA THE BRIDGE CLUB) randomly started dancing out in unison, I lost it and thought "WHAT IS GOING ON?"

I'm not sure if what you wanted.

Clearly the "story" they tried to tell went way over my head... must've happened after the 1,000th chairshot to the back. Please explain it to me.

It was a story about HHH, again doing whatever was "necessary" to beat the Undertaker... to ensure, like last year that he didn't walk out of the building under his own power. And it was the Undertaker who, no matter what, was not going to let that happen again, and was going to prove that he was the better man. In many ways, Undertaker felt he lost last year and this was his shot at redemption. So, Undertaker did what was necessary to prove his worth, with HHH being unable to walk out under his own power this year. And Shawn Michaels added a lot to the match... HBK wanted to call the thing down the middle. It wasn't until after Undertaker was physical with him that he retaliated with Sweet Chin Music, and arguably regretted the spur-of-the-moment act immediately. Further, he wanted to prevent both men from killing each other, as that's essentially as far as they were willing to take it, but also respect the wishes of a man he respects greatly (Undertaker) to "not end this."
That's what I got out of it at least.

Can't tell if you just described the match or the pre-match video package. You left out the chairshots, so I'll just assume you were talking about the video package.

The chair shots were both guys doing what was "necessary" to come out the winner.

I didn't see the match last night, but I did see last year's. I recall that it had a similar narrative - each guy was doing whatever it took to win, with Hunter becoming heel-like in his ruthlessness. Why did it need to happen again for 45 minutes? Even if it was slightly more "extreme"?
I thought the match was utterly unwatchable last year. Two old guys trading finishers and laying around for minutes in between. I'm not convinced that last night's match is something I need to seek out.

Last night's Taker/HHH match was very similar to the one from last year, but this time they had the spot where HHH powerbombs Taker while he's holding the triangle choke earlier in the match so HHH could actually manage to do it. My biggest complaint about the chairshots would be that they're in a hell in a cell, maybe use the cell to do some damage instead. Plus there were too many chairshots to the back. I kept wanting a shot to the head. I know they're dangerous, but the match felt like it needed one. And there was a lot of lying around. I liked the match, but it wasn't amazing.
Jericho/Punk was another matter. I loved everything about that match and the finish was fantastic.
I liked Rock/Cena. I was tired of the Rock on Raw, but seeing him wrestle again was awesome, and the match was well done, although both men are awful at their signature submission moves.
And I'm very happy that Mr. Excitement, John Laurinitis, had his team come out victorious.
