Well. It's that time again.
The festivities kinda start next week actually, with the Microsoft Xbox: A Next Generation Revealed where they will show off their new console.
Not to be outdone, Nintendo has decided to opt out of the usual E3 festivities and focus on handling their announcements through their Nintendo Direct videos. With rumors of a new full fledge Mario game and a Mario Kart game coming out this year, Nintendo really has to bring their A game to turn around the Wii U. We will also get some info on the next Zelda title as well as the next Super Smash Bros game.
That leaves us to Sony. With the unveiling of the PS4 last month, there is still much to discuss on the new console such as a release date, price point and launch titles and we will definitely be getting those answers and more during their press conference.
As always, I will be updating this thread during the conferences and posting as much interesting videos as I can find here or I will link them from another site if I can't embed here.
I've felt the last 2 or so years of gaming has been sort of stagnant as we awaited the next generation to arrive, and it's finally here! I can't wait to see what Sony & Microsoft have up their sleeves.

No news about the Smash Brothers game I see their making a new Star Fox game so that's cool. I just wish they did something more along the lines of their Star Fox Assault game, that one was awesome.

They are actually going to have a Nintendo Direct prior to E3 talking about not only the next Smash Bros game, but the next 3D Mario title as well as the next Mario Kart game. I am expecting an early 2014 release for Smash, but if it comes out sooner than that I'm certainty not going to complain I've never got around to playing Assault. When I used to work at Gamestop, I would always see the box on our DS shelf and I would always say I'm gonna play it...soon. That was like 5+ years ago so I know I need to get around to it.

My thoughts on today: 1.) The console is very nice. It looks like a more beefed up Slim 360. I do like that it's disc loading like the PS3 and having a 500GB HDD is very nice. Blu-ray was very essential to this new console, in my eyes so it's awesome they decided to go that route. Having built in Wi-fi is also cool considering that wasn't the case for any of Microsoft's previous consoles until the Slim was released and that was back in like 2010/2011. The controller looks pretty good as well, and having Kinect is a nice addition, hopefully it translates to better gameplay experiences though. 2.) The 'one snap' feature that allows you to do two things at once is kinda cool, but I hardly to that even with Windows 7 so don't know how often I will use it but it's nice to have. 3.) Skype is Skype. It is what it is. I use it so no problem here. 4.) Smartglass. I now have an iPad so I'll actually be able to use the app. I don't know what it does technically so I can't say too much about it. 5.) EA Sports special partnership with Xbox One is nothing noteworthy right now until we actually know what they mean by it. They showed off the new Ignite engine, which looks neat and will be WAY better than the Infinity engine they currently use (for obvious reasons). 6.) I'm interested in what cloud gaming could mean for the future of the industry. It's still in it's infant stages, with really the only example I can talk about is the cloud storage with PS Plus, but I mean Microsoft is really making it a key component with the new Xbox Live they will be rolling out. Game recording via a DVR like service is pretty cool as well, now I don't have to shill out $300 for a capture device. Achievements crossing over is also cool & having better matchmaking is always nice to have. 7.) Forza Motorsport 5. My reason to buy an Xbox One Day One! 8.) Quantum Break, from the folks of Remedy, was a nice surprise and looks very much like Alan Wake in some aspects. Getting a new Alan Wake game would had made me giddy with joy, but just the fact they have something down the pike is more than enough for me. 9.) 15 exclusive games coming directly from Microsoft Studios is awesome, and about half of them are original IPs which is the one thing I had to say negative about the Xbox brand itself. I can't wait to see what they have been working on. 10.) Halo TV Series? Sure. 11.) Call of Duty: Ghosts looks really good. REALLY GOOD. I haven't wanted to play a COD game as much as Ghosts since Modern Warfare. I suck at MP games most of the time, so if anyone buys an Xbox One & Ghosts, I will probably need your assistance 12.) Exclusive partnership with the NFL. YES! Overall, I am very excited despite we didn't get to see a whole lot of games. But, like I said, that day will come very soon.

The Xbox One reveal was a mixed bag for me.
Pros:
- Live TV. What they demo'd on stage was very intriguing. Only having to load up one device to watch cable/Blu-Rays/Netlfix, surf the internet, & play games sounds like heaven.
- Being able to do multiple things at once on the same screen. Playing a game & opening IE on the side to look up videos, guides, cheats, etc. or watching live sports & having live stats updating in real time... I've wanted something like this for a very long time.
- Blu-Ray player. Really happy about that as I've been upgrading my movie collection to Blu-Ray over the last couple of years.
- Cloud integration. Hearing what this means for developers really excites me. They can use the cloud to expand the power & size of games past the retail disc in real time without having to use the consoles HDD or processing power.
- The new controller. It looks like an improved version of the 360 controller (which is the best controller ever). I'm glad they didn't add a screen to it... I don't wanna have to keep looking down out my hands while in the middle of a game.
- Gamertags & achievements/gamerscore carrying over from the 360.
- Always connected rumors turned out to be false. Great news.
Cons:
- Lack of games. I understand that they were using todays reveal to focus on the console & are planning to use E3 to showcase the games, but the fact that the only actual gameplay we saw was from COD... which, in terms of graphics & ambition, is not the game you wanna use to show off what your fancy new next gen console can do. Nothing against COD, but it's a franchise known for annual installs that only get incrementally better. And Ghosts doesn't look any better than what we've seen from a lot of AAA games this console generation in the past year. They should've shown off a graphical powerhouse like Battlefield 4 or an innovative new IP like Destiny or Watch_Dogs.
- The console design. It doesn't bother me personally, but the social media reaction to what the Xbox One looks like is dead on... it looks exactly like a VCR or Betamax player. But as long as it can do what they say it does & runs quietly, I don't give a shit what it looks like.
- Doubling down on Kinect. Sure, this new one may be technically superior to the current one, but motion gaming is/was a fad that real gamers don't like. Nothing beats a controller.
- Used games. They've been all over the place talking about how used/borrowed games are going to be handled. I've read a couple different things from several different Microsoft reps this afternoon... some saying nothing is being changed, it'll stay exactly like it is now; some saying each disc will be tied to 1 gamertag, then a fee for any other profile that tries to use that disc.
- No solid release date or price point. I'm sure we'll get those at E3 though, so no biggie.

I'm sorry, I just saw this and I think it would interest some of you. Q: Does Xbox One require an “always on” Internet connection?
A: No, it does not have to be always connected, but Xbox One does require a connection to the Internet. We’re designing Xbox One to be your all-in-one entertainment system that is connected to the cloud and always ready. We are also designing it so you can play games and watch Blu-ray movies and live TV if you lose your connection.
Q: How do consumers benefit by being connected to the cloud?
A: The cloud makes every experience better and more accessible. Because Xbox One is powered by the cloud:
• Your games have more power available to create new gameplay, persistent worlds, and deeper experiences.
• Your system and games can update automatically, so you shouldn’t have to wait for downloads or updates.
• Your games and entertainment are stored and saved in the cloud, so you can access them anytime, from any Xbox One. • Start a game, movie, or TV show on one console and finish exactly where you left off on another.
• You can play multiplayer games with your friends, stream movies or TV shows right away, and enjoy the community and social features of Xbox Live.
• Xbox One can recognize you, log you in and tailor your home screen just for you.
You can discover what your friends are playing, watching and listening to if they choose to share. These are just a few examples of how customers benefit from our platform being connected to the Internet. It brings the future of TV and games to our consumers—and it’s designed for today and the decade ahead.
Q: When will Xbox One launch and in what markets?
A: Xbox One will launch in markets around the world later this year. We’ll have more to share later.
Q: Can I use my current gamertag on Xbox One and will my Gamerscore and Achievements transfer?
A: Yes. Your current Xbox Live Gamertag will stay with you on Xbox One if you choose to keep it, and your hard-earned Gamerscore and Achievements will indeed carry over from Xbox 360.
Q: Will Xbox One be backward compatible with my existing games?
A: Xbox One hardware is not compatible with Xbox 360 games. We designed Xbox One to play an entirely new generation of games—games that are architected to take full advantage of state-of-the-art processors and the infinite power of the cloud. We care very much about the investment you have made in Xbox 360 and will continue to support it with a pipeline of new games and new apps well into the future.
Q: Will Xbox One allow players to trade in, purchase and play pre-owned games?
A: We are designing Xbox One to enable customers to trade in and resell games. We’ll have more details to share later.
Q: Will my current Xbox Live Gold membership work with Xbox One or will I have to buy a new one?
A: You do not need to buy a new Xbox Live Gold membership. Your current membership will work on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Q: Why require Kinect with every Xbox One?
A: The all new Kinect is now an essential and integrated part of the platform. By having it as a consistent part of every Xbox One, game and entertainment creators can build experiences that assume the availability of voice, gesture and natural sensing, leading to unrivaled ease of use, premium experiences and interactivity for you.
Q: Do I need to have a specific cable or satellite TV provider to watch live TV on Xbox?
A: Our goal is to enable live TV through Xbox One in every way that it is delivered throughout the world, whether that’s television service providers, over the air or over the Internet, or HDMI-in via a set top box (as is the case with many providers in the US). The delivery of TV is complex and we are working through the many technologies and policies around the world to make live TV available where Xbox One is available.
Q: Xbox One is a more powerful product compared to Xbox 360, but does it also use more power?
A: No. By providing multiple power states in Xbox One, we’ve balanced energy efficiency with functionality. We’ve taken a completely different approach to how Xbox One consumes power. It only uses the power it needs at that particular moment for the task at hand.
