(visual approximation)Matt DanielsInduction by ADWhen I first encountered Matt Daniels it was on another message board and he was going by the username "BackyardIcon." I thought, oh great here's some yard tard who's gonna waste everybody's time posting videos of himself and his dumbass friends falling on their asses in a "wrestling ring" made out of a couple old mattresses. Little did I realize that all these years later I'd be inducting him into the MV Zone Hall of Fame. That's partly because the MV Zone didn't exist yet, but either way, I've never been happier to have been so wrong about judging a book by it's cover. As an editor, one might argue that Matt was a victim of his own consistency. He was so good so often that people sometimes took his work for granted. He often took a "less is more" approach to MV-making. His videos never featured the flashiest effects or the most groundbreaking editing techniques, but he was subtly innovative in both areas. He was one of the first to incorporate camera movement into his videos as a syncing technique, just to name one example. And he was also a master at imbuing his videos with that elusive and hard to define quality known as "atmosphere." The early moments of his FMW tribute video create a sense of foreboding similar to what one might experience in a good horror movie. In terms of competitive accomplishments, Matt's career may have peaked when he won the tag titles alongside yours truly. (And we were never beaten for those titles, thank you very much!) But he also had a classic, highly competitive world title match against fellow hall of famer Her 69 Eyes in which his "Raven vs Dreamer" fell just a few votes shy of defeating Eric's "We Can Overcome." (Not bad, considering "We Can Overcome" is now considered by many to be the best video ever produced for an MVZ competition.) But Matt's contributions to the MV Zone can't simply be measured in wins and losses. Or by the array of videos that he created (which is vast) or the quality of those videos (which were routinely great). Because he wasn't just another good editor. He booked competitions, helped run themvzone.com, hosted podcasts, and was generally one of the most visible and well-liked members of this community during his time as an active member. It could be said that during those years he was the backbone of the site (or at least the lovable mascot). And there should be no doubt that this place wouldn't be what it is today without the countless hours that he contributed to helping make it better. I couldn't be happier to see the great Matt Daniels take his rightful place in the MV Zone Hall of Fame.

Congrats to Matt! Very deserving, and one of the original pillars of MVZ. He tells me that he's recording a video acceptance speech to be released in the next few days.

Sorry this took so long to get up, but I kept having issues with the sound on my web cam. So last night, I figured I'd give it one more shot, and the video came out both view-able and listenable. I didn't intend of going 41mins, but I have A LOT to say. From the very beginning, on the ROH Boards, how The MV Zone was first established, the change over time in the way people would view/post their videos (i.e. going from posting your video in a single thread and getting pages of feedback, to how the competitions ended up becoming the most prominent way for people to see your work), how much people like Eric, Ryan and myself put into this website, a HUGE thank you list and a ton more.
EDIT: Dammit. I know I missed some names to thank. rocketfromthetombs and Rand0mZer0. I'm sure I missed a few more, in which I really apologize. So many names over the years to remember and it's hard, haha.
I don't expect anybody to watch/listen to it all, but it would mean the world to me if you did.

Finally found the time to sit down and watch this. Really great stuff here. Probably contains more sincerity than I've been able to muster in my entire time on this site. You're an awesome person, Matt!

Thanks, AD. Everything I said was completely sincere, no BS. I know I may come across extremely arrogant at points, but you gotta realize how much raw passion I had for this site. I still do still have passion, but I feel it in a different way now. It boggles my mind that The MV Zone is almost a decade old, and it's still doing extremely well, all things considered. I never expected it to last this long. But we've proved that 'The MV Zone' isn't your average fad, that does well for a while, then spirals off and is left as nothing but a memory. Not The MV Zone. We've become a staple. Which is so fucking cool. And since it has been consistently active, for so long now, I don't see why we can't maintain this for another 5-10 years.

I solved the mystery! i.imgur.com/6pJ6gxO.jpgI don't know why I thought that it was Supreme who created the initial board, but now that I see this, I remember more now.

Here's what happened.
Supreme is the original "admin" username. He is the one who created the board. Shortly after that, I took over everything (that's when the comps, the .com, etc... began). I owned the admin account (Ryan Raze) and also my "Ryan React" account. My Ryan React account had 95% of the admin tools, but I still had to use the admin account.
That's why the admin only has 15 posts (which was how long Supreme stuck around) and why the Ryan React account (which was me) had 4105.
I remember being sad I never won "poster of the year" back then, because I replied to almost every single post.
So, despite me being the Godfather of The MV Zone, I was still only the 26th person to sign up. This will be addressed in my acceptance video!
