Bold statement time: The previous two main events have been the two best matches in this show's history. Even bolder statement time: Mil Muertes is the best monster heel in wrestling since Vader in the early 90's. That's not a bold statement. That's a fact. EVEN MORE OF A FACT! Muertes vs 90s Vader would have been something to see.

Hey, AD: We might have to chance that Muertes/Vader match into a triple threat after seeing you know who debut tonight.
I don't want to spoil the big reveal during Aztec Warfare II, but what I can say is:
- This Aztec Warfare topped last year's match by a considerable margin - Is my favorite LU episode to date (yeah, it already beat last week's show) - And is one of my favorite hours of wrestling ever.
All the little feuds got to shine in a match that was for the Championship. There were times where I had to remember that the belt was on the line because so many things were going on! And you wanna know the crazy thing? It took nothing away from the match as a whole and in fact enhanced it.
This show is so awesome!!!

Hey, AD: We might have to chance that Muertes/Vader match into a triple threat after seeing you know who debut tonight. Gonna need to see more before I put him in that category, but if you want to get a guy over in one night that was the way to do it. Plus I laughed when his full name was announced as "The Monster Matanza Cueto." It's unnecessarily long and I like that.

That was one of the best hours of wrestling I've ever watched.

I'm not as big a fan of LU as you guys, but Aztec Warfare was a lot of fun! WWE should really consider changing the Rumble to this format.
Also, we all know Vince loves huge men. How come I have to suffer through Strowman when there are legit huge guys who can work like Matanza? Doesn't make sense to me.

www.f4wonline.com/other-wrestling/making-monster-debut-matanza-210051Great piece on how Lucha Underground has steadily built up to the debut of Matanza. Funny and insightful. It also gets into how LU succeeds where WWE constantly fails. To sum up: They actually tell fully developed stories. They don't just throw characters at us and have the announcers tell us we should care about them.

Big LU news today. Spoilers for next Aztec Warfare. Read at your own risk. Sexy Star is the new Lucha Underground champion, winning Aztec Warfare 3 Saturday during the company's tapings in Boyle Heights, California.
Matanza Cueto, who had been undefeated up until this point, was pinned by Rey Mysterio halfway through the match after a Canadian destroyer. Pentagon was taken out by four Asian women (possibly Angela Fong and Io Shirai, Mayu Iwatani and Kaiji Hojo from the Stardom promotion.)
It came down to Sexy Star and Mil Muertes. Muertes kept missing table spots and finally went for a top rope Flatliner, but Sexy shoved him off and through a table, hitting the top rope stomp for the pin and title victory.
The show will air sometime in early-2017 as part of the promotion's third season. There will be more tapings Sunday featuring Stardom's Shirai, Iwatani and Hojo, three of the best female wrestlers in the world who are also in town for Monday's Vendetta Pro show in Las Vegas, NV.

What a great episode tonight. The 6 person tag was so amazing. Just wow. This episode is why I watch Lucha Underground.

Was that trios match better than anything from last season's trios tourney? Because I'm thinking it was.
Rey turning back the clock. Cage with his *cough*chemically-enhanced*cough* power moves. Puma still being a human video game. Dragon Azteca getting a chance to shine. And Taya just being perfect in every way. I loved every second of it.

Last night's show gave new meaning to the Heart Punch. Sorry. Terrible joke. But I had to do it.

Some scary (non-spoilery) news from the LU tapings:
At the latest set of tapings for Lucha Underground Saturday, a main event deathmatch between Matanza and Dragon Azteca ended abruptly after Matanza legit sliced open his arm after doing a spot where he put his fist through a window.
After a long delay, the match couldn't go on, and officials sent Johnny Mundo (John Morrison) and PJ Black out to work the crowd.
One of the guys said, "Good news and bad news. The bad news is Matanza's arm is f*cked! The good news? It's a full Mundo!" They two then mooned the crowd. That brought out Rey Mysterio Jr. and Dragon Azteca from the back who hit both guys with the 619, and then gave a babyface promo for the crowd.
As of this time, the crowd is being held inside while medical officials on site can take care of things.
If we get updates on Matanza's condition, this story will be updated and will be discussed on tonight's Wrestling Observer Radio.

The season started off very slow and while I don't like to compare shows to their past seasons, in this case, it was pretty clear that it wouldn't live up to the week to week hype that the first season had (which was a tall task no matter how I try to split it). Having said that, these last couple of weeks has been good and the lead up to Ultima Lucha Dos has me very excited for the show.
Looking ahead a little bit: I want to see the Gift of the Gods better taken care of next season. It seemed like they really didn't have a clear direction as to where they want to go with it because they did 2 different sets of medallion holders within the last 2 months. There was one episode where like 5 of the 7 eligible people got medallions in one episode and then we got one episode later in the season dedicated to giving it to 7 participants. That's insane and not in a good or goofy way.
