Last night was the most disappointing episode in this show's history. Month's of buildup for a title match that ends with a ref bump and generic heel authority screwjob finish. That's WWE creative territory. I mean yeah, there's the history between Rey and Matanza that might be the explanation for Dario's actions. But since when does Matanza need Dario to fight his battles for him? Dario's much more interesting as the puppet master who manipulates both sides of a conflict. This just puts him into bland "evil boss" territory. Maybe it'll pay off down the line. But for now I'm pretty bummed by what I just watched.
Even Penta/Puma was a letdown. It was good, but it was just another match. A 32 man tournament culminating in a final that doesn't even go ten minutes? Not exactly the epic confrontation that it promised to be. But I sense there's still more coming for those two (and Vampiro), so I'm not too down about that yet.

Close examination of the graphic for next week's battle royal reveals the return of Pimpinela Escarlata! Easily the biggest moment of season 3, no?

So season 3 probably had the best Ultima Lucha out of all 3 but this new season is probably the worst the show has been. Aztec Warfare was a mess, Dario Cueto dying was a good cliffhanger last season but he is sorely missed in the new episodes, not a fan of the new people coming in (it seems like there's less and less Lucha in the show with most of the guys being US Indie dudes). I'll keep watching though because when this show is good it's amazing.
Can we turn this into a general Lucha thread? Because I want to talk about CMLL and AAA because holy crap Lucha has been absolutely amazing recently! Never in a million years would I imagine people going back and forth between AAA and CMLL but Penta, Park, and Fenix doing has been so awesome! Also, forget about Okada/Omega give me more Rush/LA Park! What an amazing match and feud they've had and if an apuestas match between them ends up main eventing the Anniversary show there's a high chance it could be the best match in Mexico since the Atlantis/Ultimo Guerrero mask match.
Fenix absolutely tore the house down with everyone's favorite caveman! What a fantastic match by both and it's awesome to see Fenix be given such a big chance at the top of the card in Arena Mexico.
Penta coming over was legit surreal to see, even with all the rumors. I'm excited to see how he does.
Cibernetico and his team have the absolute worst names ever.

Agree about season 3 so far, sadly. Tommy Dreamer? Jack Swagger? Come on now. I don't mind US indie guys, but I want cutting edge talent. Not washed up brawlers who weren't even that good in the 90's, and ex-WWE midcard hacks.
I'd like to turn this into a general Lucha thread, too. Don't think too many people here would pay much attention to it, though.
CMLL's been on fire since they started booking outside talent. Park vs Rush is the best feud in wrestling right now (sorry Gargano/Ciampa), and anybody who isn't watching sucks at being a wrestling fan. Both those guys have unreal charisma and bring the best out in each other in the ring.
Penta and Fenix are literally everywhere right now. Between CMLL, AAA, LU, Impact, and MLW they could end up being on five tv shows a week. Crazy times we live in.

I'd like to pile on the new season hate. It's awful. Feels like I'm watching TNA at it's worst. The wrestling has sucked, the Aztec Warfare surprises entrants were terrible, the commentary is worse than ever, & the stories have lost all of their telenovela charm & have become just plain dumb. I haven't enjoyed a single moment yet.

Honestly, I love LU and it's the only wrestling show I've watched consistently from it's beginnings to now. I used to get mad at myself every time I'd miss the show or after I lost access to El Rey, the streams online the day after. I loved all the great moments from Season 1 that cemented LU as the insane Tarantino-esque Mexican stepchild of other televised wrestling shows, Season 2 cemented that even more, and although it had major faults, Season 3 really had some great moments and matches, and Ultima Lucha Tres is easily the best Ultima Lucha, with the 4 main events all deserving to be in a top 20 best matches list.
This season however. Oh god this season.
Never before have I been less confident in Lucha Underground's ability to produce good shows. I hate the new temple so much. I know they had to move, but come on, that awesome entry hallway that made every person entering from it feel like a movie badass has been replaced by a campy freezer, the crowd is way less hot about the show(I'm sure there's some freezer-hot crowd joke to be made there but I'm too disappointed to make it), and it just doesn't feel like the gritty LU we once had. Hell, even after 3 Way to the Grave, which by all accounts is a fine match, it still felt somewhat dull. Lucha Underground just feels like a rip off Lucha Underground now.
I'm actually looking to start getting into CMLL again, I saw the event where Fenix debuts, and it was great to start me off, so I think I'll go and watch Fenix/Barbaro later today, and I saw Rush/Park happened on Monday's show, so I'll watch that too, and starting Friday I'll start trying to make sure to at least watch the Friday shows, and maybe fit in the other two. I'm totally up for turning this into a general lucha thread, cause if we don't, eventually this'll turn into an "I hate Season 4" thread and that only, cause I don't think it's gonna get any better for a while.

The Friday show is really the one to watch. Good matches happen from time to time on the other shows, but there's nowhere near the consistent level of quality wrestling and atmosphere that you get on Fridays. What I do is watch Fridays and just check the luchablog from time to time to see if any good matches happened on the other shows. His MOTYC list is also a good resource if you want an idea of what matches from earlier in the year to check out. I don't always agree with his assessment of matches, but pretty much anything that he rates "great" or "excellent" is probably worth a watch. Also, we need an admin to change the name of this thread. I just tried and it won't let me anymore.

AAA is also back to being really good if you like watching just completely bonkers booking. The ending of Verano de Escandalo made no sense but damn it, I loved the absolute craziness that was Konnan returning as La Parka in a ref shirt. There's some really good guys in the promotion too and I'm excited for Triplemania next month even though it's pretty obvious who's winning the main event.
Lucha Underground this week was pretty meh. I don't know who wants to see Chavo Guerrero main event a show in 2018. The sacrifice to the gods bit was pretty lame tbh.
Can't wait to see how Penta does in Arena Mexico on Friday.

Finally got a good episode tonight. Mack/Killshot/Havoc was the first really good match of the season. And Muertes/Cage was exactly what it needed to be to set up the hot angle with Pentagon.

I agree, first good episode of the season. Loved Cage/Muertes and the Pentagon interference was done extremely well. Pentagon has got to be the coolest character in all of wrestling, just oozes charisma whenever he's on. I'm really looking forward to Cage/Pentagon but the storyline setup for it makes Antonio Cueto look like an idiot when the whole reason we got Cage/Muertes was because Antonio Cueto said Cage couldn't just get an immediate match with Pentagon. I miss Dario.
That last segment was sooo good and perfect Lucha Underground craziness. RIP Mascarita Sagrada.

I was about to post this and ask why, of all the people in ROH, CMLL always books Matt Taven. (I like him, but he doesn't really fit the style.)
Then I saw this other tweet and remembered he actually holds one of their titles, so he kind of has to go back to lose it.
Gotta respect Negro Casas. 40 years is a really long time to be a wrestler. What makes it even more amazing is that he's actually still really good.

Matt Taven is one of those guys where I'm never excited for his matches but after watching I end up going "Hmm, that was pretty good". I really liked his match against Volador for the title earlier this year so I'm looking forward to the rematch.
LA PARK WAS IN THE ANNIVERSARY SHOW PROMO!!!! I can't believe we might actually get the Rush apuestas match! It's even more unbelievable that LA Park could go from main eventing Triplemania to main eventing the Anniversary show in the span of a couple of weeks. Wrestling in 2018 is really strange.

Is it weird that I marked out more for the great camera angle than I did for the actual dive? Also, that is a perfect catch by Cuerno and Azteca.

Lucha Underground has always had the best camera angles in wrestling IMO, just the way they get that perfect shot on 99% of dives is amazing.

This matches on this week's Lucha Underground were great but the stories are just not grabbing me like they did in past seasons. I don't care about Jack Swagger,I've already seen Matanza murder people for a season, Pentagon's reign feels too late, and Antonio Cueto is awful. I hope it gets better but it sucks to see what used to be what I considered the best TV in all of wrestling end up like this.
I absolutely can't wait for next week's CMLL, it looks absolutely crazy. The main event looks especially bonkers.
1) El Audaz & Fuego vs Templario & Virus 2) Ángel de Oro, Blue Panther Jr., Niebla Roja vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto 3) Carístico, Hijo de LA Park, Mistico vs Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón 4) Atlantis, Blue Panther Jr., Negro Casas vs Fuerza Guerrera, Octagón, Solar I 5) Matt Taven © vs Volador Jr. [NWA WELTER] first defense 6) King Phoenix, LA Park, Penta El Zero M vs Jay Briscoe, Mark Briscoe, Rush
