I usually start with a song I'm into but also sometimes wanna make a video on a certain topic, so the start is usually varied. I make sure the song has something to do with the topic before I start the video editing though. I then rip my dvds needed to the laptop, find clips to go with certain lyrics/beast then add clips that go to the beat more since thats usually all thats left to do. For effects I usually skim through them during the whole process to see what I wanna do, I try not to go over the top, but usually don't add them fully til it's time to render/save it. Since I like to create a "story" I think the song choice is the most important part.

The song makes the video for me. I listen to songs and always try to visualize what I could do with it. Usually on the radio every single song that comes on I visualize me making a music video to it lol, honest. I listen close to the lyrics and see if that matches something I would like to create. For example the song I am using for my video at this coming comp I heard on the radio. It was the first time I heard it and instantly one thing popped into my head.... a CZW wrestler by the name of Sami Callihan. The lyrics matched his personally so well and then some of the lyrics like "I hate my boss, he is a little bitch" work PERFECT! Because Sami is currently in a feud with CZW's owner DJ Hyde. They had several brutal and amazing matches that I could use to capture that whole section of the video! I'm not worried about my song getting out for the comp, so it's whatever. The title of the song is "Sick" and everything about the lyrics matches Sami in some way. This is what I mean about the song/lyrics make the video for me. When everything flows like that it makes things work and mesh so well together. After I have my song I listen to it over and over planning out where the big pick ups are in the song, and I listen carefully to the lyrics so I can pick out certain things to go in certain spots. For example the Boss thing, I remember when they started the feud with Sami and DJ, Sami got in DJ's face and spit right in it. That is a key moment and has to hit a pick up in the song right when I start running their feud in my video. Another example of the lyrics is when it says "I'm going crazy" I show the infamous wrist slit clip where Sami cuts Danny Havoc's wrist with a switchblade to start their feud. That is crazy stuff, and works perfect for the lyrics. I haven't had to much experience with using voiceovers in my videos, I have only did them really in my recent videos and I am working on that again in this video. I try not to ever have a voice over talk over the singer singing in the song. It works sometimes but I try to avoid any type of confusion like that. I recommend you listening to your VO over and over again with the music under it and MAKE SURE you can hear it CLEARLY because if you can't I would trash it no matter what. Nothing is worst than a voice over you can't hear clearly. Effects are meh with me, I have never really been a big fan of them and I try to limit myself. My last Nick Gage MV had a lot I feel like and I think if you are going to use effects sometimes it is best to keep them simple and not outlandish if you are going for a realistic feel to your video. For example this video I have now the only real effects are some desaturation, contrast, and a little of an echo effect. I am trying to tone it down in this one. Remember, if you aren't liking your video just can the project and move on, no reason to put hours into something you aren't going to be happy with! Right now I love this Sami Callihan video and I think I may hit a home run with it. Well, a double at least . This is my process anyways

It used to be that I would listen to a song and then I would get an idea for a video. Now it's kind of the opposite, with ideas coming first and song selection second. Finding footage is the second thing I do, most of the time it doesn't take very long. When editing the video, I usually edit it from start to finish, skipping around some if I have a particular section in mind. Lately I've added a new step to my editing process, which is importing my footage into After Effects in order to get a wider range of effects.

It really just depends. Sometimes I hear a song and instantly want to use it, sometimes I'm laying awake in bed and realize a cool video idea. I usually use my phone and write them in a memo pad to save for later, if I think it's a cool idea. To start a video, I usually vision the final product before even gathering anything. Once I've listened to the audio I plan to use a few times and get the vision great, I then get to ripping DVD's/torrenting all the necessary video pieces for the project. Once that's done I convert them all to the same file types (MPEG2's work best for me when editing). Then begin clipping and finding out which clips fit best, try to group them together as I'm clipping. Usually by the time I'm done with that, I'm too burnt out to do any actual editing so I close it for the day or at least a few hours. I then usually make some graphics or animations for closing, opening, etc for the video. Once those are rendered I bring them in, start clipping and letting it flow. Once everything is edited together I render it, watch it and see things I need to fix/re-edit/take out and so on. That's about it for me! Don't get me started on editing DVD's though longest!

It changes every time for me. Usually I'm inspired by a subject before a song, but there have been plenty of times where the song starts the process.
Editing goes the same way. Sometimes I go segment by segment, other times it's sequential.

I love finding a song first, but lately that has become harder of a challenge. I always think about making a video when I listen to rock music and find that it would suit something perfectly.
With the advent of video becoming more and more accessible, I now find my topic first.
I was notorious for starting out videos strong and getting about 2/3 of the way through before I started falling apart and taking shortcuts. There was a very quick remedy for that. Don't surpass 3:30 if that can be accomplished... I've found that 2:45-3:15 is almost the perfect length for a video and 1:50-2:20 for movie trailers.
