Well guys...it's been brought to my attention that everything on the .com is infected. How this happened I have no idea, but it fucking sickens me. A lot of people put a lot of time into this thing, and somehow it's all crumbled.
I really wish I knew how this happened, but I can't help but take some responsibility.
So, this is where we're kinda at. It looks like we're going to lose everything. EVERYTHING, that we have ever posted on the website. Videos and all.
That leaves me with two options. Attempt a very long rebuild or just give up on it and stick to a proboards site that posts videos with those bullshit free links.
So, what's everyone's thoughts. Do we have people here who have large amounts of music videos in an attempt to resubmit/post them all. Do we have anyone who is willing to take the time to re-organize all these uploads.

I have a ton of music videos on cds, but they're all mostly old videos from the ROH board days up to around 07/08. I'd be willing to upload all the relevant ones during my Spring Break, in two weeks.

Wait...viruses in avi/wmv files? Is that even possible?

Is there no way to download the videos that are on the .com server?

Is there no way to download the videos that are on the .com server? I tried, works like a charm. Ryan's point is that they're infected too, if I understand correctly. I'll see if I can do some research before I head out for the 16 Carat, but let's just say I doubt it.

I got about 50-60 gigs worth of videos from the server...it's certainly not comprehensive, but I think I have the majority of the stuff uploaded there.
It would take a loooong time, but I can upload.

Wait...viruses in avi/wmv files? Is that even possible? I did a little research. Bottom line seems to be that it is possible, but it all sounds mighty complicated. Didn't find much, so it seems to be pretty rare. Usually it's just executable files (.exe etc) that get infected by viruses. Plus, we're having a virus that was probably specifically designed to attack wordpress.com sites (or at least, websites in general). I just don't think such a virus would even bother with media files. Again, maybe I'm totally wrong, but does anybody have a concrete example of an infected file? I just downloaded a dozen MVs from the com, and they all play fine, pass my antivirus scan. With the ones I already had on my hd, I made a md5-sum check (basically an algorithm that creates a digital fingerprint of the file). The fingerprints of files I just downloaded were no different to the versions of the videos I downloaded months before the virus problem. Which means they were not changed. I don't think we need to worry about the videos.

It's more that there's a virus somewhere, and I don't know where. I do know that no matter what folder I link from on the server, it brings the internet security warnings. Do I think a video file is infected? No. But there's something somewhere that's tripping off these warnings, infecting computers, and scaring people away from the website.
Is there such a thing as an anti-virus scanner for servers? Maybe we could try that if it's possible...

I'm pretty sure I posted some links on how to export your data in one of the other threads. Like, export all the entries, categories, comments etc. Pretty sure there was one solution that exported it all in text-form, which should get rid of the viruses I think.

Only had a quick search. Seems like its more to do with hackers etc. rather than just a virus though. Thought I'd post it here anyway, just in case it can be a help in any way.

What about possibly getting a new server?

Getting a new server is entirely possible, but it also means re-uploading the files.
I would be willing to delete everything on the server with the exception of the videos. I'm going to contact godaddy.com and see if they have any suggestions or ideas.
Re-uploading the videos would take long, but would be good; but also then we have to go through the process of relinking everything.
Beej told me the videos have virus's so that's why I'm at the worst case scenario. It bothers me daily that we still don't have a link to the forums on the .com, but Loke is working on that.
This all will take some time, and hopefully not too much money! I am going to do everything I can to keep the boards alive.
Anyone willing to volunteer time to work on fixing things let me know and I'll hook you up with access. The last thing I want to lose are the videos that many friends put hours into, for the past 5 years or so.

Just don't delete anything yet without me knowing...I'm going through the server now searching for anything suspicious. I doubt I'll make any headway, but I'll be browsing around for a few hours today.
