I wanted to give everyone an idea of my mindset now that the 5th Year Anniversary competition is underway. Originally, the 5YA was supposed to be the final competition held on The MV Zone, and quite possibly mark the ending of the site as a whole. The constant board switches, the viruses, and the complete destruction of our main page were big factors in this decision. In addition, the lack of participation and activity on the board, as well as people actually having real life commitments led us to this decision.
Somewhere along the line while working on the 5th Year Anniversary, I found my passion for the site again. Listening to old episodes of Zone Radio and Zone V made me realize how much history is involved in this site- how many people dedicated time- how many real-life friendships and acquaintances have formed from this little hobby of ours. In my mind, all of that amounts to way more than the sum of the problems we are experiencing.
Thankfully, we were able to figure out the virus problems. We have a new main page, that, while in its infancy, will continue to rebuild to its former glory. We're in the middle of arguably the greatest competition in MVZ history, and viewing some complete works of art while others are turning in their greatest efforts to date. I want to continue. I want The MV Zone to be around for another 5 years!
That's a crazy statement, and most likely a pipe dream. But I'm willing to press on. The lack of activity and active posters isn't an easy fix. It's not something that will be fixed overnight, but let's ride it out. I still believe that The MV Zone has yet to see its best days...
That being said, the site will need your help! The MV Zone began as a small migration of members from the Ring Of Honor message board. Our best posters and editors all came from one place! Who's to say that the next Her69Eyes or SS Press isn't waiting on one of those boards to be directed here. It's with this reasoning that I'm asking you to please promote The MV Zone elsewhere. If you're a member of any other message boards (especially the wrestling ones), direct some people over here. I'm always thrilled to see new members- and the people that stick around are the life of this site!
I'm working on some ideas to promote the site elsewhere. If you're an avid listener of the Bryan and Vinny Show, you may have heard a promo or two for the site. We are also kicking around the idea of promoting on the Observer main page soon. I have an idea of putting up $500 of my own money in a competition open to any editor on the internet (regardless of board alliance, website, experience level). If you have any "out of the box" ideas, please let me know!
Possibly the most important thing anyone can do is to just be active. Let's talk! Post on the board...and not just in current topics. Don't be afraid of the new topic button! Any subject is fair game here!
Also, let's help the newer editors on the site! I'm asking the experiences editors to please take a look around the Wrestling Music Videos board every now and then and help a new editor out. Most of us started in that very board, struggling to get feedback and improve. The people relegated to that board right now could very well be the next th3rd or ltownbob!
I would love to see The MV Zone expand into more areas of editing. The wrestling videos are fun, but lets encourage movie mvs, TV mvs, video games mvs, etc. Being one-dimensional isn't going to drive more traffic to the site, but embracing various forms of editing will! I would love to see more variety in our competitions! If any editor would rather have a match based in movies, mma, tv, or any non-wrestling subject, don't hesitate to say something!
In the coming months, we will hopefully be trying some new things. If you have any suggestion, comment, idea, complaint, feel free to voice it. I'm always looking for ways to better the site, and I value the input of both older members and newbies.
I'm probably not mentioning anything that hasn't already been states before, but I sincerely hope that the 5YA has inspired you as much as it has me to continue on with the site! It's been slow for a while now, but I really do think that if we all just do a little bit more, this website can thrive! I suppose the main point of this thread is that The MV Zone is NOT dead, and will not die!
I hope you feel the same.
Enjoy the competition!
