Hey guys,
I had to work with some mp4 files today, which my Vegas 8 couldn't import. After not being able to convert them, I downloaded the trial of Vegas 9, which doesn't have a problem with mp4 at all, but is insufferiably slow no matter what I do. Like, I can just put an mp4 oder avi file in the timeline, click in it and it takes Vegas 5-20 seconds just to load the damn preview pic. I've never had any problems like this with Vegas 8, anybody have similar problems / any ideas what to do?
Cheers

Vegas 9 does appear to be slower to me to some degree but not the troubles you're having. Vegas 8 can import mp4s though. Install FFDshow and that should take of your problems.

Hm, I'm positive I already have ffdshow, although I've had some problems with that in the past, so I'll reinstall it.
Edit: Nope, makes no difference. Thanks anyway, Bob!
Vegas 9 also makes my entire timeline go red, which I don't think is a good thing. Again, no such problems with the same veg-file in Vegas 8. Confusing.

Sounds to me like you need more RAM. Might be wrong though.

May be true, but I don't think that's the problem here. Same veg file in Vegas 8 ( = without the mp4s) works perfectly fine, it's the mp4s in Vegas 9 that slow the whole thing down I think. No clue why, but it's somehow related to them.
Anyway, I just finished it nonetheless. Lucky me that this was pretty basic stuff, otherwise I would have gone completely insane.
