Right there with you Vyp, Mendes was able to hang with Aldo during their second fight and is a great striker, but he's not as mobile and as resilient as Frankie.
Frankie's footwork would break apart Conor's "slow and calculated" approach. Chad is more likely to try and bang with Conor.
I'm a fan of Conor's, but I think Aldo was an easier fight for him, style wise. Frankie would slowly pick him apart and probably even finish him, and Chad could too, should he decide on a smarter gameplan than the "yeah, I can probably knock him out" one.

Frankie dances around Conor's flatfooted karate crab style for 25 minutes easy. And if he gets hurt, he has shown how durable he is. If Mendes gets hurt on the feet, he may not have the wherewithal to revert back to his wrestling, if ya catch my drift. Still, I'm not saying Conor beats either of them, but in my mind, Mendes is the easier fight. Couldn't agree with this more. Frankie beats Conor 9/10 times. And don't get me wrong, Conor is the man, and great for the sport but it's obvious the UFC seen they had something special and protected it the best they could. Bottom line Conor = $$$$$. |

Sucks to hear about Gilbert but I like that he's owning up to it.

IT'S FIGHT WEEK!!!
Invicta tomorrow with Cyborg and Irene competing. UFC 189 on Saturday where no matter what happens in the main event it's bound to be entertaining. Plus, Rory finally gets his title shot. Then Sunday you got Wonderboy competing and the Karate Hottie making her debut. If you watch boxing then Friday night you got Thurman headlining PBC! Good weekend to be a fight fan.

At this point I don't want to see Cyborg fight unless it's against Ronda, because she's being fed cans in invicta.
Irene fighting for the title is going to be great, her vs Tonya Evinger is going to be a tough match up for her tho. If she beats her it's going to show how good she actually is because Tonya has been looking like a killer as of late.
Herica Tiburcio who beat Michelle Waterson, is also defending her title and Marina Shafir is maker her invicta debut so thats for sure a show to watch!

- Gonna miss Invicta due to some training of my own, but I will damn sure watch it on friday.
- I'm so pumped for 189, I don't even care who wins, and it's been a long time since I was this excited for a card.
- Sunday card is also really good, I'm a fan of Wonderboy and I want to see him do great.
- Next tuesday I get to meet and train with Wand, so I'm also kind of (really fucking) excited for that one too. I'll post photos if I'm able to get some.
So all in all it's a pretty good week coming up.

Some presser thoughts.
I like how Conor always comes off pretty articulate and intelligent. Chad looked really bad with all the dude's and bro's. It was like a silly preschooler trying to argue with a college student. "This isn't fucking yoga dude", "I'm gonna fucking destroy your life". I don't mind either of them winning as I think they both have a shot at it, but please never let Chad speak again.
I've always liked how guys like Conor and Chael talk shit before fights, it's interesting to watch, but I was loving Robbie and Rory's calm and respectful demeanor as well. They're sportsmen, not showmen, and that's so fucking powerful. Gentlemanship at its best.
Ellenberger's "Juggernaut" comment was stupid and ridiculous. Wonderboy also came off as really chill and focused.

If you want to see MMA become bigger, see things like stadium shows, record breaking numbers, massive weigh in's crowds (like today) and most of all the spectacle of what the build up/fight against Jose Aldo would be like. You gotta hope that Conor doesn't lose.
Because If he loses we get none of that, we just get a normal Chad vs Jose 3 event in which we just watch Chad lose 3x.

I'm not hoping he loses but I would gladly read all the salt that would come from McGregor fans if he fails this weekend. Invicta last night was alright. Really sucks to be Marina Shafir right now. You could tell her last loss really affected her and now I can't really imagine what this one might feel to her. It's too bad about Irene but that was one hell of a fight she put up, especially in that first round. Cyborg squashed a can. Contrary to what a lot of people think I think the fight with Rousey happens. I laughed when they showed her doing water arobics with old ladies and they were like "no one knew who she was" though. Genius marketing there. |
