Sooooo, I only ever use AE for text and effects, and even then it's very limited use, so I'm always struggling to know what render settings to use to get the best effect, having floated around the MV world for this long, I've noticed that some of you MVZ and A2E guys have HD quality yet the filesize of your videos isn't something ridiculous like 1GB or something (I know, I'm such a noob when it comes to AE). I use AE CS3 on my old laptop and 5.5 on my new laptop (I had trouble installing some plug-ins and 5.5 seems to hate me in general so I still use CS3). I'm just wondering if anybody has any suggestions that could help me out a bit with this. Thanksss

This might not be much help, but stick with the base settings that's there when rendering from programs such as After Effects which I believe is uncompressed AVI. If you're rendering a long video you're going to need a lot of space(26 gigs when I exported my 6 minute video from After Effects), but it's safe to export your projects in the uncompressed settings to stop the risk of audio sync issues, quality issues and possibly importing your AE renders back to your editing program for fixing some editing mistakes. Now when it comes to compressing your files to keep the quality fairly good with a low file size, I use Zarx264 www.amvhell.com/stuff/zarx264gui/I believe in the newer version you have an option of what to compress to (MP4 or MKV). Choose the MP4 option and in the settings choose Bitrate (2 pass) under the Mode option and under the video bitrate option you can go up to 3000-4000 Kbps which is more than enough to keep the quality of your video. Keep everything else the same and press encode. This works best with uncompressed AVI files, I don't know how well it works with other formats or if it works with any other formats at all, but this will give you the best results especially with having manageable file sizes without loss of quality and streaming to youtube.

Well at least I know now I'm not the only one that finds Adobe's render settings to be completely stupid, I don't understand why Adobe can't have as many options (and varied quality settings) as Vegas. Thanks a lot Lee, this did really help me out, yeah, rendering will take hours, but in the end when my video looks all crisp and HD it'll pay off
