I was recently hired to do some profile videos for a couple of underground hip hop artists and it looks like I'm going to be getting some more work out of the deal so first off, I need to create a somewhat professional looking graphic logo for my YouTube channel. The letters are "MJGtv" and I just need to do something flashy instead of simple text or logo generated text through a website to some background music. To give you an example I was thinking just a black and white kind of grim looking TV in the corner of a room flickering through static and then locking on with my letters. What would be a good program to use for SOMETHING like this?
Secondly, I've been using Windows Movie Maker 2.6 sucessfully somehow for the last 10 years and now that I've been hired on it's time to upgrade as far as effects and transitions and quality so what is the best program to upgrade to next?
I would be sincerly grateful if anyone could help me with these issues. Thank you!
-Mike
EDIT: Probably something along the lines of the TV's used in this PWG BOLA 2011 preview video.

Hey Ill! Crazy to hear you've been successful with WMM, a lot of us have moved on to either Sony Vegas (for PC), Final Cut Pro (for MAC), or Adobe Premiere Pro (both) for editing purposes. As for your TV flicker effect, you can use one of the programs I mentioned to execute. Theres also Adobe After Effects, a graphics-based program where you can do all types of graphic-based magic. A lot of us use it to spice up our MV's, but so you'll still need a video editing program along with it. Either of these programs might be a big leap from WMM, but there are tons of tutorials out there, as well as us to ask.
