I have been trying hard to improve my editing by all the feedback i have been given at Vidmas, I have made this (took around 30 minutes) so I can compare some of this to my Vidmas video. (I am not making another Punk video, I find it easier using Punk clips as I have so many).I have been looking through all of the feedback like 3 times today throughout making this, I am just hoping that I am able to get the basic capibile of editing before the next competition in March.
-Use basic Effects, not overlays. I just used a bit of contrast -Don't make the trademark too distracting. I just put a simple one at the bottom right -Beat Syncing. I have kind of got an idea of beat syncing as you can see towards the end -Make the clips go with the lyrics of song. I did not bother as it is only short and a test -Pacing of clips. Went for it a little in this but that is something i would prefer spending time on in a full MV

A few quick tricks here. For starters, a better way to make your video look better, especially with tags, I'm noticing a lot of people make a title slide with the song title or the title of video, rather than having a tag in the corner. It's totally up to you, but I am really picky about fonts, so I like just making a title slide then not having to have my name or anything in the corner, cause it can be distracting depending on the font you choose.
This is a good example of pacing. If you're gonna use speed changes and velocity, don't make them "in your face" so to speak, try to make it a bit more subtle, so that it has impact, but it's not like overbearing. Speed changes is a huge thing with pacing, so if you can work on controlling the speed of the clips, that will help a lot when trying to pace your video.
Beat syncing, there wasn't much to it. I recommend you make a minute video at the least, so we can have a better taste of all these areas; 9 seconds is simply too short to judge and give feedback honestly.
I like that you're taking feedback, as I am doing the same, good luck!

I like that you're making a concerted effort to improve. Honestly, that's what makes the difference between those who win titles and become valuable members of this forum, and those who just disappear. There was nothing really wrong with this 10 seconds. It's hard to make a concrete analysis based on such a short amount of time, but it already seems tighter than your Vidmas video. One thing I would note it to take it easy on the slow motion...it seems to be a fad that quickly going out of style. Use sparingly.
Overall, nice job. Don't hesitate to get further help. You're on the right track.

This is a good example of pacing - Thanks, I think I need pacing a lot to improve my MVs. Speed changes is a huge thing with pacing - I know that, but I started practicing it as there may be parts on a video which go with the lyrics of the song but you could make it go with the beats at the same time. I recommend you make a minute video at the least - I think that a 1 minute video is a bit too long to make and at the same time I could probably use that time on an MV I like that you're taking feedback, as I am doing the same, good luck! - Good luck to you.

Find the tempo of the song. The song is in standard 4/4. 1 2 3 4 _ 1(clipchange) 2 3 4 _ 1(clipchange) You don't want to always change clips on that 1st beat, but you need to figure it out yourself, so you can set up good pacing, and halfway decent flow. You need to basically have the viewer expect the cut, but do different ways of syncing it so it isn't repetitive. In that little sample, it was off so all the cuts were just jarring in a not so good way. Once you get it down though, you won't think about it. Just a little tip moving foward as this is the biggest flaw with all the new videos I see, is people only sync to change the clip. You will have an rko and as soon as it hits we are on to the next clip, and it is such a repetitive way to edit. This kinda goes for all editors from post 2011. Hope this helps and doesn't confuse you at all, as it's a different way to look at it I guess. Keep up the good work
