So, I guess everyone has seen that Batman V Superman trailer by now (if you haven't, it's posted on the movie section of this board) and I wanted to share my thoughts on not just the trailer, but the reaction to the trailer.
Let me get this out of the way first, I thought the trailer looked impressive. At least the action set pieces did, I'm still a bit iffy on the story but I'll leave that. I was shocked however at the negative response it got on the internet, yes...people being negative on the internet still shocks me. I understand that not everyone is going to like these versions of the characters and that's ok. What I don't understand is the hate they throw at it. If you don't like it, don't go watch it. Vote with your money. Something these studios will understand. Amazing Spider-Man was terrible (not completely but fell short of lofty expectations) and we voted with our money and now we are getting a new version of the character alongside the Avengers. Now you may tell me that their is too much on the line to go back and change things and that may be true, but I will also say that the ASM series had several movies in line to be made also and now they aren't happening either. And in the midst of all of this, the first big controversy surrounding Gal Gadot being cast as Wonder Woman is a mute point now, and she looked the part in the trailer.
The Guardian Effect
We got a few more trailers at SDCC this year too, one being the long anticipated Deadpool film and the other the Suicide Squad. I think we should all thank Guardians of the Galaxy for being a success, and showing big studios that unconventional films can be successful too, I think it's safe to say that we wouldn't have a Suicide Squad or Deadpool movie without it.
The Deadpool trailer might have been taken down already but trust me it's everything it should be. This was the role that Ryan Reynolds should have always played. Tons of actions and hard R ratings dialogue with cameos from a few X-Men make me excited for this one. Plus, Gina Carano!
The Suicide Squad trailer looked just as impressive as the Deadpool trailer and Margot Robbie was very impressive as Harley Quinn, and we get a cameo from you know who which looked to be ok. It's looks like it's going to be a crazy ride.
They announced another Green Lantern reboot titled Green Lantern Corps, I was really bummed by the Ryan Reynolds led Green Lantern so I'm hoping DC gets it right this time. The mythos in just these books is enough to span an entire universe of movies. Multiple leads and maybe a Sinestro appearance would be nice. Though I hope the big bad is Black Hand and his army of zombies.
Other SDCC stuff related to comic books
Spider-Man
Marvel TV
DC TV
I'm hoping I can start doing this every week, covering television, comics and movies. Let's not make it official though. Go with the flow.
