Something I’ve been thinking about for awhile, and I’m curious what everyone’s are. Wrestlers who you consider “favorites” that don’t really fit a universal mold as being a favorite. Sure, we all love Daniel Bryan. But is there anyone out there who considers John Walters a favorite?
Two of mine that spring to mind immediately are Dean Malenko and Steve (William) Regal. Both could tear it up in the 90’s, and I enjoyed their work as a young teenager. Going back and viewing their matches now, I appreciate them even more!
Who are some of your unlikely favorites?

Since you guys are going with older ones I'll go with a modern one with Elias. I find him super entertaining, he's one of my favorites on the roster right now. He's whatever in the ring but his character delivery is great.

Gregory Helms always found him entertaining regardless of if he was The Hurricane or himself thought he was a good heel when he wasn't The Hurricane and gotta second Durty Elias is entertaining as hell.

I've been a huge fan of "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer's work in the 80's ever since I got to see his stuff from Mid-South. He was great in the ring and on the mic. Made you believe he was legitimately tough and legitimately crazy. Probably could've been one of the biggest stars of the era if he wasn't such a huge pain in the ass to work with.
I've also always liked Matt Borne. Especially his run as the original evil Doink in the early days of Raw. He made that gimmick work. It's just a shame that they ruined the character with sub-par performers and a lame face turn after he was fired, because that's the version most people remember. He also had the best match at the first Wrestlemania (vs Ricky Steamboat). Another guy who ruined his chances at stardom by being a total wreck as a human being.
I guess a modern favorite would be CMLL's Fuego. He's very solid in the ring, and his entrance dance routines are always a delight.

A few more that I though of...
-Rob “Con Man” Conway. I just loved this character, and his theme. No real reason why, it just entertained the heck out of me. -Hacksaw Jim Duggan. I’m talking like 95-99 WCW Duggan. Yes, he was awful. But I always found something oddly endearing about him. -The Patriot. More so in 1997 WWF. I bought in to his character and was all about him eventually defeating the evil Hart Foundation. -Like the initial post suggested, I very much dug John Walters in ROH circa 2004-05. The very definition of vanilla, technical worker, -I don’t know if this classifies as “unlikely” as he has had a lot of fan support over the years, but Jimmy Jacobs. For me, he belongs in the same conversation as Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, and Samoa Joe as the “Kings of ROH.” The Age of the Fall was awesome, and the whole “Jimmy Loves Lacey” storyline remains quite possibly my favorite in the history of pro wrestling.

Chris Candido. I always thought he was just a phenomenal all-around talent. Somehow always got stuck in the mid-card ranks wherever he worked for whatever reason. And only 33 when he died. Could probably still be going strong today.
Billy Kidman. I know the joke about how half his offense was predicated on countering powerbombs. And in WWE he bulked up too much and lost all his agility. But there was a time in WCW when I looked forward to his matches as much as anybody in the company.
Brad Armstrong. Pretty much the definition of a "good little hand" who could never be a star. But he could have good matches with anybody.
