Here's WEBCAM GIRL, a film I made last semester at school. I'd consider it my first true narrative film, as this was the first time I worked with an expansive crew. I wrote, directed, and edited the film - it was a project that was in preproduction off and on for literally a year. The subject matter is one that I had intended to tackle when I first applied for my current school, and thus for better or for worse this is a film i'll always stand by.

The script went through many changes. Plot points were dropped and added constantly. But, here were a few constants throughout:
I wanted to make a film about the dehumanization of women through the sex industry - the way identity is stripped away once sexuality is involved, and men become crass, chauvinistic, and oppressive. The harder the penis, the more despicable the man!
I wanted to make a film about technology's influence on communication. When basic social interaction is limited to 140 characters or less, conversation is a commodity. People pay to invest in what they perceive to be genuine human warmth.
I wanted to make a film about the internet not as a source of connection, but as a barrier between people. Conversation is unnatural, it's as if each response is a calculate attack. There's no demand for immediate response, thus each participant can stir over their rebuttal. In this sense, I wanted to make a film of awkward silences - one that made each lull seem like an eternity.
The film's imperfect, certainly: the budget was $60 (gas and food), the audio is awful, and some shots here and there are out-of-focus. Nonetheless, i'm pretty happy with the accomplishment.
