Toy Story 3! - One of my favorite movies legit, they did such a good job with it. If you were a fan (It probably works best if you were like me, and grew up when 1 and 2 came out...) You will love this!

The IllusionistHonestly, I don't know why I kept putting this movie off. The movie starts off with Eisenheim, a famous magician (Played by Edward Norton). As he's performing a magic show, he's arrested by Chief Inspector Uhl (Played by Paul Giamatti). After he arrests Eisenheim, he tells every piece of information he knows about Eisenheim to Crown Prince Leopold (Played by Rufus Sewell). This includes the beginning of his life, why/how he became involved with magic, his early love life, his leaving of Vienna, his return to Vienna, and the few months before he arrested Eisenheim. Basically, the entire movie is narrated by Giamatti until the last 10 minutes or so. As I mentioned, the narration also includes Eisenheim's early "lover", Sophie (Played by Jessica Biel). Since he was in the lower class, and Sophie was in the upper class, they could never be together. After he learned they could never be together, Eisenheim leaves his home (Vienna), but returns 15 years later, learning that Sophie is now with the Crown Prince (With rumors going around that they may get married soon). The narration aspect adds a LOT to the movie. If it was a straight movie with no narration, and through Norton's point of view, it would be a plain movie. Since the narration is involved, it seems more like a tale about magic and wonders, which fits with the genre. I won't say too much more, because I think I spoiled some of the movie already, and don't want to spoil too much more. If you enjoyed this and haven't seen The Prestige, yet... SEE IT! Crushes The Illusionist, and by crush, I mean 550lb woman eating a large deluxe pizza crush. www.imdb.com/title/tt0482571/#72 in the all-time top 250.

Jack Goes Boating - Fantastic, such a lovely treat of a film, it's rare to see a film display such raw honesty and genuine emotion, this is one of the few that achieves that. It's not going to be much talked about or even remembered much by the general public I'm sure but I feel like that's just the ideal debut for PSH as a director. Great performances all-round but I think John Ortiz stole the show. Currently holds the #1 place in my 2010 list but I expect a few to exceed it towards the end of the year (Black Swan, most notably).

I saw Jack Goes Boating over the weekend and also really liked it. Really loved the cast and, as you said, John Ortiz is great - I thought his friendship with PSH was one of the sweetest i've seen in recent years. It's rare to see a movie of it's kind without the cynicism that is so typical of the genre (well - cynicism, or the forced optimism that often forces it's way in during the third act). I didn't love it quite as much as you, but I see it being a movie i'll watch repeatedly once it makes its way to cable.

The Prestige has been one of my favorites for years. The feud between Jackman and Bale was absolutely amazing, and the ending was surprising and powerful. The Last Airbender
Now, I LOVE ATLA, but what a lot of people need to understand is that it's not going to be EXACTLY like the cartoon. If they were expecting the cartoon, then what's the fucking point in paying $10 to watch it, when they can watch the EXACT thing on TV for free? Nonetheless, I honestly liked the movie. The action certainly wasn't as fast paced, but it's to be expected, since M. Night's forte isn't really Action-y movies. The only thing that GENUINELY bothered me were the accents of the actors. The last thing I wanted to hear were half the names botched and everyone calling Aang "The Arvatar". M. Night claimed to be a "HUGE" watcher of the show, but I'd rather complain about him getting the names wrong than for some other reason, like not including events.

Machete
I don't think they could've made this mock movie any better. Like all his other movies, it SCREAMED Robert Rodriguez. Whether it was Trejo, Seagal, de Niro, or hell, even LOHAN, all the characters were great, and the actors did a tremendous job at playing their parts. The action in it is absurd and over-the-top, but then again, when watching the mock trailer of it on Planet Terror, what were you expecting?
I definitely recommend checking this out, because, in all honesty, it's one of the best movies of 2010.

A Nightmare on Elm Street
Now, I'm obviously talking about the remake. Let me just point it out: Shit fucking sucks.
I REALLY didn't want to believe it. When the trailer came out, I marked. The only reason I liked the trailer so much was because of the new Freddy. I get that everyone loved the original Freddy, but I didn't. It's a horror genre, and the killer slays everyone while cracking jokes and being sarcastic. When I saw the trailer, I thought "Jesus, he's going to be fucking sadistic". But alas, even the new Freddy was being sick and demented one minute, then making facepalming one-liners the next. He had no idea what character he wanted to be.
And I know a lot of people complain about new horror movies, but seriously; who in the fuck directed this shit? The moronic fucks don't run away, they fucking PRANCE. Just ignore the fact that a burned victim that controls your dreams just killed your dog. (He probably deserved to die than to live with some moronic broad as an owner, anyways).
Honestly, it was a waste of time to watch it. The tweak in the "Fred Krueger" story was good, but everything else in the movie cancels it out, and everything just looks like a botched mess.

Just had to point that out, as I am a very big supporter of the original Nightmare.

Just had to point that out, as I am a very big supporter of the original Nightmare. Well, I didn't mean "crack jokes". I just can't think of the word for it. For example, in the new one, Freddy said something like "Sure. We can hang", and moved the person's head so they could see dead bodies that were hanging upside-down. Of course, the original Freddy's humor was better, but still. The thing that bothered me was that I didn't really find the Nightmare On Elm Street movies to be scary, mainly because of the Freddy character. It seemed like if it really happened, I would be intimidated by his appearance, but after he started being humorous, I wouldn't be intimidated anymore. But, I guess that's just me. EDIT: Wait. Wait. Wait. I just re-read what you put, and I misunderstood it COMPLETELY. When I said "original", I didn't mean just the first one. By "original", I meant the original writer, Wes Craven's movies. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

The Social Network - Wow, now that's a powerful and relevant film. For once, I can fully appreciate David Fincher's efforts here, everything else he's done has been somewhat disappointing (yes, Fight Club included). Looks like Sorkin was the partner that Fincher really needed, the rowing scene was magnificent and the entire film is just so seamlessly set-up and the time of release is perfect and as mentioned before, it might be the most relevant and contemporary film for our current generation of communication.

I saw Black Swan at the Chicago International Film Festival on Monday. I had my reservations throughout, although having distanced myself from it i'm beginning to appreciate it more.
I think it's Clint Mansell's best score. At first it's jarring to hear how intrusive it is - normally scores that draw too much attention to themselves are to the film's detriment. But as the film itself is a ballet and the music is key to the narrative progression, it's a pretty incredible accomplishment.
And although I do still have my reservations about the first two thirds of the film, the last act is the best thing Aronofsky's done. It's by far his most ambitious film (and that's including The Fountain, which many argue was killed by it's overwhelming ambition).
I also saw Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives and Certified Copy among other things, which are both pretty incredible.

Toy Story 3.
Yeah, I'm late on this. Everyone is more or less on the same wavelength so I don't really need to write a whole review on it. But I will say that I did cry. Alot. Blubbering profusely.

Predators
With all the trash talk on the movie, I expected it to suck. Honestly, it was pretty good. If you make the same mistake as everyone else and compare it to the original, then you might not like it as much. Watch it with an open mind, and you'll most likely be entertained. Topher Grace definitely had the better performance in this movie.
