Wonder Woman was a beautiful film.

Okja - Bong Joon-ho never disappoints. By far my favorite movie ever about a young girl's love for her giant, genetically modified super pig. Also has the most delightful action sequence you're likely to see any time soon. Go watch it, it's on Netflix.

It - As far as modern horror movies that overuse loud sudden noises for cheap jump scares go, this one was quite good. I was skeptical about this new version, having been terrified by Tim Curry's Pennywise in the old made-for-tv version, but it won me over about halfway through. The set piece where It terrorizes the kids in the old abandoned house was where I stopped comparing the two versions and just accepted this one on its own terms.

So I realized I havent done a review for a film on this website this year which is kinda incredible for me because that's what I was known for.
It Comes At Night - A great film with some terrible Misleading Marketing! Thankfully it had been a while sense I saw the fantastic trailer that initially got me hooked to go see it but it completely misleads you for what the movie is actually about. Reminds me of "The Witch" marketing did the same thing which is also from A24 studios, you guys make some great films but Jesus market your films properly! Anyways this film was really great! The cinematography is fantastic, the score is incredible and the sense of Isolation in the location was fantastic and felt a sense of dread throughout the whole film. Joel Edgerton and everyone in the film was incredible and where characters I liked and was interested in. The film leaves you alot up to the imagination, it leaves you after watching the movie hours later still thinking about it and thats how you know you watched a great film!

Wind River - An excellent modern western. Tense and emotional, with uniformly great performances. I like this Jeremy Renner way better than action hero Jeremy Renner. Even though this is his first real directorial effort (I know he made some cheap horror film a few years back, but he's pretty much disowned that one) Taylor Sheridan has already established himself as a pretty singular voice in the American cinema. If you liked "Sicario" and/or "Hell or High Water" you'll definitely appreciate this one as well. It maybe doesn't have quite the same directorial assurance as those other two--Denis Villeneuve could've definitely milked some more suspense out of a couple of the set pieces, for example--but I think it's got more heart.

Train to Buscan - Incredibly refreshing in the otherwise pretty stale zombie genre. Claustrophobic, harrowing, and surprisingly emotional.
American Made - I enjoyed this film a lot. One of Tom Cruise's better films of the last few years. Interesting, and darkly humorous.
Kingsmen: The Golden Circle - I understand the criticisms this film is getting, but I still enjoyed the heck out of it. It isn't nearly as great as the first, but there's still a lot of fun here. I'm excited for the third!

Blade Runner 2049 - This film was absolutely Fantastic, Phenomenal, Masterpiece whatever you wanna call it, one of the best films I have seen in a while. Denis Villeneuve has been one of my favorite directors working sense I saw his film "Prisoners" a few years back. And with each film he has released sense such as 'Incedies (Yes I know it was released before Prisoners), Enemy, Sicaro, Arrival' he has wowed me and made me love each film over the previous. And now with Blade Runner 2049 he does it once again, and of course he is joined along side by the best cinematographer out there Roger Deakins. This is one of if not the best looking film that I have ever seen, as AD mentioned Deakins shouldn't care if he hasn't won a Oscar yet but I mean come on if he dosent win after this I truly will give up on the Academy like I haven't already. Every frame every shot of this film was absolutely beautiful. It was a perfect continuation of the original film while feeling like its own film and not a sequel that tries to pander to people that had seen the original. The score by Hans Zimmer was absolutely phenomenal while still having the original score lingering throughout. There were so many times where im sitting there in my seat literally saying to myself "YES THATS AMAZING" at some of the breathtaking things I was watching in front of me, something that I have never done for a film before. This is truly one of the best films that has been made in a while and I can say that proudly. Its a shame that this film didn't do so well at the box office because we need more big budget blockbusters like this! Denis I love you and thank you for making this incredible film, it is truly one of those films that makes you remember why you fell in love with the platform in the first place.

Blade Runner 2049 - Alright I was wrong. It was really good. Fuck you. Making the continuation of Deckard's story just a small part of a bigger puzzle was a clever way of getting around my fan boy fear of cheapening the poetic ending of the first film. Not sure it needed to be 3 hours long. There were parts in the middle where I thought they were explaining things in a bit too much detail. But the final 30 minutes are extraordinary. Very much worthy of inheriting the legacy of the first film. Will it stand the test of time, and be as endlessly re-watchable as the first one? Probably not, but who can say for certain? Does that even matter? Not right now it doesn't.

I know I’m like a decade late on this one, but Gone Baby Gone. What an emotionally and morally challenging film! As much as I love Affleck in front of the camera, he’s even better behind it.

A Ghost Story - Can't recommend this one highly enough! It's easily the best film I've seen so far in 2017. In fact, I'd be surprised if I saw a better film any time soon. You might hate it if you're not used to oblique, lyrical art films. But I think if you submit to it's unique rhythms you'll find that it becomes much easier to follow than you might expect at first. That's a difficult trick for a filmmaker to pull off. To make a film that functions as both a tone poem and a more traditional narrative. David Lowery is fast becoming my new favorite young filmmaker. His films tend to be both artsy and sentimental in equally unapologetic measure.

Thor: Ragnarok - Kind of felt like two different movies stuck together. It's like the stuff on Sakaar is the movie that Taika Waititi really wanted to make. And the Asgard scenes have all of the obligatory MCU elements that the evil corporate overlords demanded. Even the art design and score look and sound completely different depending on which planet you're on at any given moment. But even with that schizophrenic quality it's still probably the most pure fun I've had watching a super hero movie since Hellboy 2. The Sakaar stuff was definitely more fun. But even when they got into all the CGI destruction on Asgard (which I usually find pretty boring in these movies) they'd drop in a bit of Zeppelin to help liven things up. Plus, I thought Cate Blanchett looked really sexy in her Hela costume. Still needed more Goldblum, though.

Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri - What a absolute fantastic film, I absolutely loved this! Everything about this is perfect, to the perfect script, to the acting, the cinematography, the 'dark' humor and to the unpredictability of the story. What a great film, I defiantly recommend it!

The Disaster Artist - Most I've laughed in a movie all year. Endearing. Odd. I need to know more about Tommy Wiseau.

Three Bllboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - Great movie! It's not as laugh out loud funny as the trailers made it look. It is funny, but it's often more of an uncomfortable, cringe and laugh at the same time kind of humor. It goes into some very dark places. And it asks a lot of questions about human nature, and our legal system, that don't necessarily have easy, satisfying answers. So don't expect it to be that kind of movie. But I'll say this, the best thing I can say about any movie is that I was kind of bummed when it was over. Not because the ending was unsatisfying, but because I just didn't want to stop watching it. And that's how I felt at the end of this movie.
