Phantom Thread - Now I know what I'm cheering for to win Best Picture at the Oscars this year. It doesn't stand a chance, but a guy can hope.

Bone Tomahawk
I've been wanting to see this for awhile, especially all the more after how much I enjoyed Brawl in Cell Block 99. This was fantastic, and the best Western in the last 20 years, in my opinion.

BABY DRIVER; Fantastic movie with a plot similar to Drive. However, it made itself unique with the focus on sound and the complex but seemingly simple character of Baby. It provided a story that was somehow both practical and impossible, with an ending that focused more on realism than optimism while maintaining a positive spin on a negative situation. My internet was out so I went to Walmart and got it on DVD. Only $8..98!
A Wrinkle In Time: The best part about this movie was all the snacks we snuck in. God, this was awful. The plot was, on paper, cool and unique. But I’m execution it was horrendous. Full of cheesy cliches and an incredibly unconvincing child actor, the saving grace of any semblance of “good” in this movie sad Chris Pine and whatever the protagonists boyfriends name was. Do. Not. Recommend.

Game Over, Man.
If you like Workaholics, you'll probably love this. If you don't, then steer clear.
I know that's not a review so I'll just say this: it's as advertised.

A Quiet Place and Blockers - both highly recommended, for very different reasons.

Isle Of Dogs - God I love Wes Anderson, he does it once again! Fantastic Mr. Fox is one of my favorite movies of all time so I was so excited to see this and it did not disappoint! I was surprised and didnt know going in it was rated PG-13, you actually feel like any character could die and have actual consequences at any point. Highly recommend and cant wait to see it again!

A Quiet Place. I loved this movie so much. I’m partially deaf in my right ear and pretty sensitive to loud noises, so I really connected with one of the protagonists in this. It’s an emotional roller coaster of fear, suspense, and sadness (even inducing tears from multiple audience members including myself). With such a unique and enticing plot, I’d be a fool to NOT recommend this.

Infinity War - Absolutely loved it. The "Empire Strikes Back" for the MCU.

Some movies I've seen recently:
Isle of Dogs - The most delightful piece of cultural appropriation I've seen in a long time. I've read a few reviews that suggest it's insensitive of Japanese culture, but that's ridiculous. It's a loving homage to great filmmakers like Akira Kurosawa and Hayao Miyazaki.
The Death of Stalin - Possibly the funniest movie ever made about historical atrocities. If you liked "In the Loop" or "Veep" you'll want to seek this out. For the rest of my life I'm going to refer to any skinny guy with a mustache who annoys me as "Slim Hitler" thanks to this movie.
A Quiet Place - Maybe the best movie of it's kind since Bong Joon-ho's "The Host". It's actually so good I don't want to believe John Krasinski really directed it by himself. With it's female empowerment ending it really feels like it could be this year's genre film that captures a cultural moment - similar to what "Get Out" did last year.

Hereditary - One of the better Horror movies in years. I know we say that every year, and whats sad is Horror is at such a bad place that there is a average of one good Horror movie a year but this one is absolutely fantastic, and whats crazy is this is the directors first Full Feature Film is insane. So well shot, so suspenseful, incredible acting and have absolutely no idea where the story is going. My only gripes is there are a few scenes that are just there for exposition and while well done are only there to tell the audience what’s happening. But still great movie and currently my favorite of the year so far.

I actually think horror is in a pretty good place right now. Maybe only one or two really great movies per year, but there's a lot of interesting stuff being made if you look in the right places. Granted, I like the genre more than most, so I get excited for even minor successes. Either way, it's a lot better than it was a few years ago when everything was either a shitty remake or torture porn.

So I recently re-watched Revenge of the Sith and I have to say that it is extremely underrated.

I just saw Alpha, a really great coming-of-age story taking place 20,000 years ago. I’m going to say that this is the most beautiful film I’ve ever seen. Aesthetically, it’s breathtaking. 3D enhances that. . Decent-Strong 8/10 from me.
